The annual General Assembly of the World Federation of International Music Competitions (WFIMC) was held in Parma, Italy, from June 5–8 (JST).
Representatives and officials from more than 60 international competitions around the world gathered online and in person, including representatives of the Tokyo International Conducting Competition, a regular member of the meeting and an event organized under the auspices of the Min-On Concert Association.
A number of sessions were held at the general assembly, in addition to resolutions on amendments to the bylaws and the election of new officers. On June 8, the hosts of five competitions – the Arturo Toscanini International Conducting Competition, the Besancon International Competition for Young Conductors, the Gustav Mahler Conducting Competition, the International Conducting Competition Rotterdam and the Tokyo International Conducting Competition – took to the stage for a wide-ranging panel discussion on conductor competitions.
In addition to appeals from each competition, many issues were discussed, including the preliminary screening selection process, issues related to the gender of participants and judges and more, making for a productive annual general meeting.
The 20th Tokyo International Conducting Competition will be held in October this year.
