Tohoku Hope Concert
“Ordinary people are the great earth. And the world’s future resides in the hearts of youth. When the music of peace reverberates among the people, a light of goodness and beauty will envelop society and, indeed, the entire world.” — Daisaku Ikeda, Translated from Japanese, Ikeda Daisaku zenshu (The Complete Works of Daisaku Ikeda), vol. 134, p. 457, (2003).
In the spring of 2012 – a year after the Great East Japan Earthquake and the subsequent tsunami that devastated the northeast Tohoku region – Min-On launched a series of concerts entitled the Tohoku Hope Concert, holding admission-free concerts at primary and middle schools of the disaster area (39 different cities of Iwate, Miyagi and Fukushima Prefecture).
