Chinese acrobats wow Japanese audiences over two-month blitz

From the month of March to May 2024, the China National Acrobatic Troupe performed at 32 venues across Japan at the invitation of the Min-On Concert Association. As the first step of their nationwide tour, the 60-member Chinese troupe visited the Min-On Concert Association in Tokyo, where General Manager Li Chi shared that their shows would feature new choreographic elements in the service of forging stronger bilateral relations.

The tour opened in Nagoya on March 9, mesmerizing Japanese viewers with breathtaking performances of acrobatics that seemingly defied the limits of human athleticism. Following the conclusion of the Nagoya venue, General Manager Li expressed his appreciation to Min-On for its longstanding commitment to introduce Chinese performing arts to Japanese audiences. The general manager himself had first toured Japan as a member of the New Glory Arts Ensemble of Beijing in 1996, at which time he felt firsthand how important friendly relations were for China and Japan.

The April 12 show at Tokyo drew envoys from 36 embassies. Among the dignitaries were His Excellency Wu Fianghao, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Japan, as well as Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries Chairperson Yang Wanming and Vice Chairperson Yuan Mindao.

The troupe’s tour ended in Sendai City on May 1, completing their grueling schedule of 51 shows in just some seven weeks. They were able to do so, in part, because of the warm encouragement and support from Min-On audiences nationwide, said Deputy Director General Wang Maoqiang of the Beijing Performance & Arts Group, who flew to Japan to observe the final performance.

The China National Acrobatic Troupe members returned to their homeland, flying out from Sendai Airport on May 3.
