Announcement of the Results of the Second Preliminary Round for The Tokyo International Conducting Competition 2024
Contestants who are listed below have passed the Second Preliminary Round of the Tokyo International Conducting Competition 2024
The Final Round of the Competition will be held on Sunday, October 13 at Tokyo Opera City Concert Hall.
The contestants who will participate in the Final Round are as follows.
Entry No.68 Kornilios Viktor MICHAILIDIS
Greece / Born on July 2, 1989
The Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, and holds a master’s
degree in conducting from the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. He served as
assistant conductor for the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra during the
2016-17 season and for the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France from
2018 to 2020. He recently completed his tenure as conductor-in-residence
with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra. Michailidis has also performed with
the Russian National Orchestra, the Staatskapelle Weimar, the Athens
State Orchestra, and the Lahti Symphony Orchestra. He has conducted
several performances at the Teatro Real in Madrid, including productions
of The “Magic Flute” and “Nixon in China”.
Entry No.124 YOSHIZAKI Ayano
Japan / Born on January 21, 2001
After graduating from the Piano Department of the KITAKAMAKURA Girls’
Senior High School, Ayano went on to graduate from the Department of
Conducting, Faculty of Music, Tokyo University of the Arts in March 2023
and gain admission into the master’s program in conducting in the same
university in April 2023. She is studying conducting under Ken Takaseki
and Kazufumi Yamashita, and has also attended master classes with Zsolt
Nagy and Sian Edwards. Ayano has performed with the Geidai Philharmonia
Orchestra, Tokyo. Currently, having been accepted into the Nippon Steel
Arts Foundation, 2023 Young Conductor Development Support Program, Ayano
is a conducting researcher for the Kioi Hall Chamber Orchestra Tokyo.
Entry No.171 OKAZAKI Hiroki
Japan / Born on November 28, 1998
In March 2021, Hiroki graduated from the Department of Vocal Music of
the Tokyo University of the Arts Faculty of Music. In April of the same
year, he took admission into the Department of Conducting in the same
faculty. He was a prize-winner in the Student Music Concours of Japan,
High School Vocal Division. In January 2024, Hiroki won first prize in
the 2nd “Mt. Fuji Virtuosos” Conductor Audition. He has studied under
Kazufumi Yamashita, Shigeki Miyamatsu, Ken Takaseki, Tatsuya Shimono,
and Shigeo Genda.
Entry No.209 Riley Holden COURT-WOOD
UK / Born on January 5, 1997
Riley graduated in violin from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama
and then studied conducting at the Royal Northern College of Music. He
has also studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Riley has
studied under Martyn Brabbins, Clark Rundell, and Colin Metters. In 2021,
he was appointed resident conductor for the Muscat Royal Philharmonic
Orchestra in Oman. He is also an assistant conductor for the BBC
Scottish Symphony Orchestra.

– Dai Fujikura: Glorious Clouds
Piece of Choice:
– The Executive Committee will decide on the piece to be conducted
by a contestant from among the three pieces of choice submitted by the
contestant at the time of application.
