The festive dance band Cimarrón from Colombia concluded its tour of Japan at the invitation of the Min-On Concert Association from November 7 to December 7, 2024. The band performed at 18 venues nationwide, kicking off with a concert at the Kenshin Culture Center in Fukushima prefecture. That event was held to commemorate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Colombia and Japan.
Cimarrón is a Grammy-nominated group playing joropo, a musical style featuring stringed and percussion Latin American instruments accompanied by dance routines. The six musicians comprising the band were Ana Veydo, Jimmy Andres, Jose Luis, Duvan Rodolfo, Daniel Felipe and Yeiner Camilo.
On November 11, the band visited the Min-On Culture Center in Tokyo, with band leader and vocalist Ana Veydo expressing gratitude for the opportunity to introduce their music and Colombian culture to Japanese audiences. The artists later toured the Min-On Music Museum’s collection of classic pianos and music boxes.
That evening, Cimarrón performed at the Bunkyo Civic Hall, which ambassadors and embassy officers from 23 countries attended. The band also performed at two free school concerts in Hokkaido held under the auspices of Min-On’s community outreach initiative.
On December 7, Cimarrón concluded their Japan tour with their at the Kawasho Hall in Kagoshima prefecture, to return to their country the next day.
