On December 15, 2023, the Min-On Concert Association hosted a special concert event celebrating the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and the Republic of Croatia.

It was held at the Min-On Museum Hall and featured Klapa Dišpet, an all-women Croatian group of acapella singers. The event drew some 165 people and realized with the generous support of the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Japan.

In his opening remarks, His Excellency Dražen Hrastić, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Croatia, said he was grateful for the bonds of friendship between the two countries. He explained that “klapa” was a traditional Croatian style of singing on love, friendship and patriotism that was cherished as a valuable cultural asset.

For the event’s concert phase, the seven members of Klapa Dišpet performed various popular songs and native favorites, from “A Mother’s Cry” to “The Steamship Floats” and a traditional Croatian Christmas carol, delighting the audience.

This special concert event was made possible through the financial support provided by those who subscribe to our Min-On membership program as well as other contributors.
