On Thursday, August 21, the Children’s Committee of the Shanghai Musician Association visited Japan and held a Japan-China Friendship Summer Concert at the Min-On Culture Center Museum Hall. (Supported by: Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Japan). Approximately 120 people attended, including Minister-Counsellor Mr. Chen Zheng from the Chinese Embassy.

To begin, Minister-Counsellor Chen Zheng delivered a guest address, emphasizing the significance of Japan-China friendship and youth exchange through music. He expressed his hopes for the concert’s success and the development of cultural exchange between the two countries.

Next, the Fuji Junior Chorus performed a chorus in Chinese, expressing their welcome to the members visiting from Shanghai and adding color to the stage.

Following this, eleven children from the Children’s Committee of the Shanghai Musicians Association performed, expressing their hopes for Japan-China friendship.

Special guests then took the stage: Zheng You, a yangqin (Chinese hammered dulcimer) player; Liu Jinyang, an erhu (Chinese two-stringed fiddle) player; and Shiba Kohzan, a shakuhachi (Japanese bamboo flute) player. Their performances of traditional Chinese and Japanese pieces drew thunderous applause from the audience.

Finally, the Shanghai Musicians Association Children’s Committee and the Fuji Junior High School Choir performed “It’s a Small World” together. The beautiful harmony of friendship filled the venue with emotion.

The Shanghai Musician Association Children’s Committee and our association presented the “Certificate of Participation to the China-Japan Friendship Concert (in Japan)” to participating children from both countries.

The day before the concert, they toured the Classical Piano Room and the Automatic Musical Instrument Room at the Min-On Music Museum. On August 23, they performed together with the Nijiiro Choir (Ishikawa Prefecture) at the “MIN-ON Kids Festa: Summer Music Discovery! in Kanazawa” Japan-China Friendship Summer Concert, delivering a moving stage performance.

This project was made possible by the generous support of our members, to whom we extend our heartfelt gratitude.
