On August 27, the World Tango Championship (WTC) in Buenos Aires was held at the Movistar Arena, one of the city’s largest stadiums and site where some 10,000 enthusiastic tango fans gathered to witness the internationally renowned competition.
Dancers from around the world entered the final stage after battling through preliminary rounds that took place in various parts in the world. While 20 finalists competed in a hard-fought final round, the Argentinian pair Sebastián Martínez and Ayelen Morando were declared the winners.
Min-On President Koji Yamaguchi, who was in attendance, presented the Argentine dancers with the Min-On Award and its commemorative plaque. The WTC had invited Yamaguchi in part for Min-On’s longstanding service in repopularizing the tango in Japan and other countries.
