The Japan tour of Duplessy & The Violins of the World, which kicked off from September 15, 2024, concluded on October 3, 2024. The quartet performed ten concerts throughout Japan at the invitation of the Min-On Concert Association.

Duplessy & The Violins of the World is comprised of Mathias Duplessy, an accomplished French guitarist and composer; Guo Gan, who plays the two-string erhu, from China; Mandakhjargal Daansuren, player of the stringed morin khuur, from Mongolia; and Zied Zouari, a violist from Tunisia. Together, the group showcases stringed instruments from around the world and performs its unique, innovative music.

On September 13, before opening its first concert in Japan, Duplessy & The Violins of the World visited the Min-On Culture Center, the head office of the Min-On Concert Association, where the quartet was welcomed by Min-On officials.

In their meeting, Mr. Duplessy, agreeing with Min-On on the importance of cultural exchange, said he looked to share the enticing harmony of stringed instruments from different cultural backgrounds with Japanese audiences. The group later toured the Min-On Music Museum’s collection of classic pianos and music boxes.

Duplessy & The Violins of the World’s premiere concert was held at the Niterra Civic Hall in Nagoya City. It concluded its tour at the Coach and Four Kushiro Culture Center in Hokkaido on October 3, departing Japan the next day.
