Argentina’s Quinteto Del Angel went on a tour of 22 cities throughout Japan from January to March 2024 at the invitation of the Min-On Concert Association for the 53rd edition of its Tango Series.
On January 23, when the quintet visited the Min-On facility in Tokyo, quintet leader Humberto Ridolfi gifted “Un Angel en Japon” in honor of deceased Min-On founder Daisaku Ikeda and his belief in the power of music and culture to advance peace. The song is about the quintet leader’s father, Angel, who adored Japan and whom Min-On invited to take part on a Tango Series tour in 1991
Mr. Ridolfi co-composed “Un Angel en Japon” with two fellow quintet members: pianist Adrian Enriquez and bandoneon player Nicolas Enrich. Quinteto Del Angel performed the song for the first time in Nagoya on January 28, the opening venue of their 23-venue nationwide tour.
For the tour, the quintet collaborated with popular female vocalist Vanessa Quiroz and three top dancers led by acclaimed tango dancer Gaspar Godoy.
The show held at the Bunkyo Civic Hall in Tokyo on February 13 was attended by Chargé d’Affaires ad interim Pedro Marotta of the Embassy of the Argentine Republic in Japan, together with the leading Japan-based envoys from 37 countries and territories.
The tour concluded in Tokyo to the thunderous applause from the audience on March 6.
