Today, the Min-On Concert Association and the Embassy of the Kingdom of Bahrain in Japan welcome you to the Kingdom of Bahrain located along the Arabian Peninsula.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The Kingdom of Bahrain consists of many islands of different sizes, with a population of about 1.5 million and total area approximately the same as New York City.<\/p>\n<p>Bahrain shifted from an emirate to a kingdom in 2002, adopting a constitutional monarchy as its government, and a progressive royal family. H.R.H. Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa has 110,000 followers on Instagram, and Shaikh Nasser, son of H.M. King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, is also known to post beautiful pictures of his sons and daughter on social media.<\/p>\n<p>The crown prince is also a racing enthusiast who spearheaded the construction of the Bahrain International Circuit. As a result, in 2004 Bahrain became the first country in the Middle East to host a Formula One race.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-11394\" src=\"https:\/\/www.min-on.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Bahrain2.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1021\" height=\"625\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-11395\" src=\"https:\/\/www.min-on.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Bahrain3.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1022\" height=\"575\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Bahrain, a rapidly advancing country<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Kingdom of Bahrain has three primary islands: the large Bahrain Island, which makes up about 85% of the country&#8217;s total land mass, the historic city of Muharraq, currently also on the UNESCO network of Creative Cities and the industrial Sitra Island. Bahrain Island formerly a terrestrial border with the Arabian Peninsula, but today, the 25 kilometer-long King Fahd Causeway (an oversea bridge) connects the island to Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-11396\" src=\"https:\/\/www.min-on.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Bahrain4-1024x685.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"685\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-11397\" src=\"https:\/\/www.min-on.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Bahrain5-1024x538.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"538\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Modern Bahrain has pushed forward with many large-scale developments, including the Bahrain Financial Harbor, a world-class financial center constructed with significant national support; the Amwaj Islands, a group of six man-made islands; Dive Bahrain, the world&#8217;s largest underwater theme park and Durrat Al Bahrain, a man-made island complex known for its unique horseshoe- and fish-shaped islets. These recent developments in Bahrain have attracted businesspeople and visitors from across the globe.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-11398\" src=\"https:\/\/www.min-on.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Bahrain6-1024x512.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"512\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The capital of Manana is home to the largest theater in the Middle East, Bahrain National Theatre. Architects built the theater around the theme of <em>One Thousand and One Nights <\/em>(<em>Arabian Nights<\/em>) inspired by the traditional <em>dhow<\/em> (a type of wooden ship) construction techniques, giving it superb acoustics. The theater hosts events across many genres, including opera, classical ballet and live concerts.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_11399\" style=\"width: 1034px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11399\" class=\"size-large wp-image-11399\" src=\"https:\/\/www.min-on.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Bahrain7-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-11399\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Bahrain National Theatre<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_11400\" style=\"width: 1034px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11400\" class=\"size-large wp-image-11400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.min-on.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Bahrain8-1024x445.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"445\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-11400\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>The National Library and the Grand Mosque (Ahmed Al Fateh Mosque) in Manana<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>The enduring history of Bahrain<\/strong><strong>\u3000<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The history of Bahrain can be traced back to the Dilmun civilization that prospered around 3,000 BC as a trading hub between Mesopotamia (the Middle East), and the Indus civilization (modern-day India). Recent excavations have revealed that the Dilmun civilization made use of abundant local fresh water and vegetation to develop sophisticated lifestyles and culture.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-11401\" src=\"https:\/\/www.min-on.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Bahrain9-copy.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1022\" height=\"437\" \/><br \/>\n<em>World Heritage Site \u201cDilmun Burial Mounds\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-11402\" src=\"https:\/\/www.min-on.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Bahrain11-copy-1024x427.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"427\" \/><em>Bahrain Fort (Qal&#8217;at al-Bahrain), registered as a World Heritage Site in 2005<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Another famous tourist attraction is the Tree of Life, a lone tree standing in the Arabian Desert in Southern Bahrain. They were recognized in May 2001 at the 2nd Arab Music Festival in Paris, and they are also officially supported by the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Qalali Band<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-11405\" src=\"https:\/\/www.min-on.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Bahrain15-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Qalali Band performs unique traditional music and dances centered around Bahrain\u2019s culture of pearl diving. Their unique, traditional Arabic style has been passed down over thousands of years and is loved by audiences in Bahrain and worldwide.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Music culture and daily life<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Bahrain\u2019s economy prospered with the trade of its high-quality natural pearls from the 3rd to 15th centuries BC. Over the centuries, dances that men enduring perilous voyages to harvest pearls used to lift their spirits, alongside the sorrowful songs sung by the family and lovers who watched them set out to sea, developed into the Bahraini folk music genre known as <em>fijiri<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-11406\" src=\"https:\/\/www.min-on.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Bahrain16-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Although traditional pearl diving is no longer common in Bahrain,<em> fijiri<\/em> music remains prominent. The urban style uses fixed-form poetry and is based on an Arabic melodic system called <em>maqam<\/em>. The genre was established in the early 20th century in Bahrain and Kuwait. The dance that accompanies the music, known as <em>zaffan<\/em>, involves a pair of men dancing in the evening in a meeting hall (<em>samra<\/em>) while someone sings and plays an <em>oud<\/em> (an Arabic stringed instrument) backed by the rhythms of a small drum (<em>mirwas<\/em>) and the intricate clapping patterns.<\/p>\n<p>Below, please enjoy a landmark work by Mohammed bin Faris (1895\u20131947), one of the pioneers of <em>sawt<\/em>.
